| Need help to fatten my mare for winter |
| between the two of them they have been getting a square bale per day 60 to 70 pounders, as well as about 5 pounds each of alafalfa cubes moisened and sprinkled with vitamins and canola oil she still isn't getting fatter, she shouldn't be wormy as they were grazing most of the summer and were dewormed shortly before then. I realize I should worm them more often in a smaller pen but seriously how often?? could it be her teeth even though she is not a messy eater, that is a sign right?? I like them fat for winter, and last winter she stayed fat on less food, what do you think worms or teeth, might as well do both, but I wanted it to freeze before I dewormed them, but maybe i should just do it. |

Iwould recommend some beet pulp in your alfalfa, it is also good for their intestinal tract, and pick up the seniors ration from Ospika.
They also have a high fat one, but my guys do not like it. I have had good results with the seniors though, and it is extruded so it is easier to digest, especially if your horse is in need of some dental work.
Hope this helps, I use it on my stallion during the breeding season, and to fatten him up through the winter.
Also when you buy your dewormer I would recommend the Eqvalan Gold, or the Equimax as they also get tapeworms, and are the safer combination dewormers.
I noticed someone was putting an order in to Jeffers, I know the Equimax is around $11.99 through them. |

| I just bought dewormer the other day, before I noticed about the jeffers order, I bought the biomax (I think that is what its called) but for some reason I don't think it does tapeworms, (crap) I will try the beetpulp too I gotta go get more cubes tomorrow anyway |

| Have to say I swear by the hi-fat step 5 I think it is at Ospika it wont make your horse hot and the fat will go right to his waist!! If she will eat it!!! |

| The only place I can buy stuff is the growers coop here in quesnel, but basically something high in fat?? If it makes her a bit hot thats ok, cause she has been a bit chilly at times..... LOL |

hmmm well definitely stay away from the high starch carbs which will only make her hot try to find a higher fat extuded feed and definitely would be a good idea to have her teeth checked if she was holding her weight last year on less... |

when i got my horse down for tapeworms, they have a dewormer at coop that you just give them 2 instead of one and it does tapeworms. i think its the green one with the horse on it.
just ask at coop, they will help you out ! |

you could ask for the phase three pelleted feed from co-op as it has rice bran in it which helps with weight gain, and is easy to digest.
